Our Story

Our Philosophy

At "Kruti Artisan Haat" we aspire to create a truly responsible market place that connects customers directly with artisans and through our design initiative "The Upper Cut- TUC" we are creating designer lifestyle products by using the power of traditional art and craft with legacy ranging from 600 to 4000 years. We draw inspiration from the nature and it's evident in our designs and materials we use. We are working towards sustainable luxury which has contemporary designs yet making use of the traditional methods to create the masterpieces. This very belief helps us conserve the art form and empower the artisans. We aspire for a new and improved lifestyle not just for our customers but for our artisans too.We started our journey way back in 2011 with the brand identity "Kruti" and within 10 years of starting this impact venture, two of our panel artisans have got National Award. Most of our panel artisans have either been awarded with State or National award for their respective art and craft.Thousands of artisans with magical skills are struggling for recognition and financial sustainability across India, "Kruti Artisan Haat" is a sincere effort to create an ecosystem that truly empowers artisans financially.Through our sister brand "KRUTI COFFEE" (www.kruticoffee.com) we are empowering farmers, primarily tribal coffee farmers of Koraput in Odisha (India)

What’s in a story, though? How does the story develop authenticity?

Our Mission

Making an Impact: This is at the core of everything we do at Kruti Artisan Haat. Our key focus is on making an impact in those less traded segments of society that needs exposure, in terms of opening up a market for their art form, getting recognition for the work that the artisans are doing by following principles of fair trade across the value chain.

Improving Livelihood

When any art form gets translated into a commercially viable idea, it enhances livelihood opportunities. We at Kruti Artisan Haat have enabled our artisans by guaranteeing a base wage every month which goes towards ideation and rest of the wage is as per the orders placed. To grow together is the best way to grow! Along with the brand, we envision better quality of life for our artisan community without whom this journey loses its meaning for us.

Reviving Traditional Art & Craft

In spite of the magical touch that artisans across India are able to add to their respective art and craft, financial viability primarily from art and craft has always eluded them.Kruti Artisan Haat is our small attempt to make traditional art and craft financially viable by the power of design so that these exceptional artisans stay commited to their craft and pass on the nuances to their next generation.

Staying Ecologically Conscious

Compassion towards Mother Earth is not just a sentiment but the need of the hour. Our products are just not driven by trends, they are driven by a sense of ecological consciousness too.Kotpad remains one of our core offers due to its identity primarily around natural dyeing techniques and the entire value chain associated with the product being ecologically sustainable.

KOTPAD

Kruti Artisan Haat takes immense pride in its association with Kotpad weaves from Koraput in Odisha. We have stayed honest with our support towards Shri. Bidyadhar Mohanta, his super talented wife Smt. Anuradha Mohanta and their team of Kotpad artisans since 2015. We supported Shri. Bidyadhar during his application process for National Award which he deservingly won in 2016. During the entire Covid lockdown period, we placed regular orders for Kotpad products. We feel extremely proud that our small step taken a decade back has lead to many incremental gains for Kotpad naturally dyed weaves and artisans involved with it. It has become an ethnic craze in India and abroad and every ethnic brand of repute has a Kotpad line of its own and that's what we call is the real success of "Mission Kruti".

DOKRA
Dokra as we all know dates back to the days of Mohenjo-daro civilisation.
Dokra has become highly commoditised and middleman driven business due to which there is very little financial incentive for artisans and their families to stay involved with this magical craft form. There are huge supply chain issues to counter for the Dokra artisans due to inadequate availability of brass and rising cost of raw material. Kruti Artisan Haat has been supporting State Awardees- Smt. Golap, Shri. Sansari, Shri. Trinath, and their entire village of 40 Dokra artisans from Odisha since 2015. Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, we have been placing orders for Dokra products with advance payment to take care of financial uncertainties. We deliberately allowed flexible timelines for the completion of orders during the pandemic to de-strain all our artisans.

PATTACHITRA & SAURA

Pattachitra & Saura Art are traditional art forms from Odisha which date back to more than 2000 years. Kruti Artisan Haat has been supporting State Awardee Shri Brajeswar Pattnaik, and his team of more than 30 ladies involved in Pattachitra and Saura Art, since 2011.
Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, we have been placing advance orders for Pattachitra & Saura Paintings and Products curated by using these art forms.
Shri Brajeswar Pattnaik has given a unique visual identity to our sister organization Kruti Coffee (www.kruticoffee.com) with his signature Saura Art painted on the café wall, packaging, and merchandise.

BATIK

Working relentlessly for the last 18 years, our panel Batik artisan from West Bengal, Shri.
Amit Chakraborty has been reviving Batik with his unique patterns themed around abstract imagination thus bringing the obscure ancient resist dyeing art of Batik to the forefront.Amit Chakraborty has empowered many women from underprivileged backgrounds by teaching them this complex craft with his signature simplicity.
